Praying the Scriptures

Recently, through our Monday and Friday night prayer meetings, I've decided to start praying the Scriptures again. There's something beautiful about praying the Word. It helps your mind stay focused. It makes prayer more about God's purpose than our own. It creates a sense of real conversation with God, assures us that we are praying His will, and keeps our time with Him fresh and alive.

For many of us, prayer can become repetitive without even realizing it. We pray for the same things in the same ways, and after a while, our words start to feel empty. But something powerful happens when we anchor our prayers in the Word of God - Scripture begins to shape what we pray, how we pray, and even how deeply we think about God.

In all of this, praying the Scriptures reminds us that prayer is not simply talking - it is aligning. It is shaping our hearts to think, desire, and pursue what God wants. It draws us deeper and frees us from praying the "same old things about the same old things."

Below is an example of what I have personally prayed during our Monday and Friday night prayer meetings - Prayers of victory for our homes and Marana, all rooted directly in the Word of God:

Prayers of Victory (Biblical)

Victory Through the Blood of Jesus
"They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony." - Revelation 12:11
Jesus, I thank You for Your blood that gives me victory. By Your blood I overcome every attack, accusation, and bondage. I stand washed, redeemed, and empowered. No weapon formed against me can prosper.

Victory Over Fear and Anxiety
"God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind." - 2 Timothy 1:7
Father, I reject fear and receive Your power, Your love, and a sound mind. You are my light and my salvation - whom shall I fear? I walk in confidence because You go before me. I reject fear in my home, church, and neighborhood. Let anxiety bow to Your presence.

Victory Through God's Strength
"The Lord is a warrior; the Lord is His name." - Exodus 15:3
Almighty God, arise and fight for my family. Strengthen our hands. Let every battle we face become a testimony of Your power. You are the God who goes before us and grants us victory. Jesus let your strength overflow into my neighborhood and our town of Marana.

Victory in Spiritual Warfare
"The weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds." - 2 Corinthians 10:4
In the name of Jesus, I tear down every stronghold, every lie, and every spiritual attack. I stand fully armed in the armor of God. I declare victory over every plot of the enemy. I declare victory in our homes and in our town!

Victory Over Temptation
"God is faithful... He will provide a way of escape." - 1 Corinthians 10:13
Lord, You are faithful. Strengthen me and my family to resist temptation. Open the way of escape and let us walk in purity, obedience, and holiness. Give us victory in every hidden battle.

Victory for Your Home & Family
"As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord." - Joshua 24:15
I declare that my home belongs to the Lord. No evil shall come near us. Let Your Spirit reign in every room. Bring unity, protection, and peace. Cover my family with Your victory, and let Your victory flow from my home to my neighborhood.

Victory in Every Battle
"The battle is not yours, but God's." - 2 Chronicles 20:15
Jesus, I surrender this battle to You. Fight for me and my home. Let Your presence scatter every enemy. Just as You gave Jehoshaphat victory through praise, fill our mouth with worship until breakthrough comes.

Victory Over Oppression & Darkness
"No weapon formed against you shall prosper." - Isaiah 54:17
"The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it." - John 1:5
In Jesus name, I break every chain of oppression. Darkness has no authority over me. Let Your light fill my life, my home, and our town of Marana. Every assignment of the enemy is destroyed by Your power!

Victory Through Praise
"Let God arise, and His enemies be scattered." - Psalm 68:1
Lord, let my praise rise before You as a weapon. As I worship, scatter every enemy. Fill me with joy, strength, and boldness. Let my praise shift the atmosphere around me.

Victory in Purpose & Calling
"He who began a good work in you will complete it." - Philippians 1:6
God, give me victory in the calling You've placed on my life. Remove every distraction and hindrance. Order my steps. Empower me to walk in purpose, authority, and fullness.

Victory Over the Enemy's Lies
"You shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." - John 8:32
Lord, expose every lie. Let Your truth take root in my mind, my spirit, and my church. I reject every voice that contradicts Your Word. I declare freedom, clarity, and victory in Jesus name!

Victory in the Name of Jesus
"At the name of Jesus every knee should bow." - Philippians 2:10
In the name of Jesus, every sickness, every fear, every attack, every chain must bow. I declare the authority of Jesus over every part of my life. I walk in power, peace, and victory. I declare this for our families and Marana!

A Clean Heart That Welcomes Heaven

Psalm 34:7 - "The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and delivers them."
Psalm 51:10 - "Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me."

A clean heart is more than a moral choice - it is an invitation. Scripture reveals that when purity and humility are present, heaven responds and God draws near. His angels are released to work in ways we often do not see but deeply feel. A clean heart becomes a dwelling place for the activity of God.

God's presence rests where the heart is clean. Purity helps us understand and see clearly, which opens our hearts to be more sensitive to His Spirit. When our inner life is aligned with God, heaven draws near. Angels minister to those who walk uprightly and seek Him sincerely. I'm not referring to being perfect, but to having a heart that earnestly strives to honor God, even amid our mistakes and everyday challenges.

In our homes when we declare the greatness of God, the spiritual atmosphere shifts. Speaking God's name over your home, your spouses, your children, your street, and over neighborhood creates spiritual alignment. In that atmosphere, the work of angels and the movement of God become unhindered!

Declarations are not just words, they are spiritual foundations. When we speak peace, healing, and revival, we establish what heaven desires. Angels respond to the Word of God spoken in faith by our voice. Your voice becomes a doorway for God's will to be made visible in your home, children, and neighborhood.

Today, God has given you authority to speak blessings, breakthroughs, and spiritual release in your home and family! Speak it in every direction!

North: Let every captive be set free.
South: Let God's Spirit flow.
East: Let revival rise.
West: Let the glory of God come.

These declarations extend your faith beyond your home and further into the town of Marana, inviting angelic movement and heavenly alignment.

Scripture shows that dreams and visions often come to those who pursue holiness (God's character). This is not our attempt to be perfect, but you and I pursuing God to let Him cleanse us daily.

Holiness is also personal, but it is never isolated. Community strengthens purity. When homes across Marana choose unity and being right with God, spiritual covering increases. Angels are not only dispatched to one household but to an entire area. Fellowship builds protection. Connection creates stability. Unity becomes the doorway for citywide ministry and divine movement in Marana. Holding hatred against your brother blocks the flow of revival! In your life, in your home, and in our church. Sorry, that's just the pastor in me speaking. Ok, now back to my thought.

This is why our Connect Groups are so valuable - they follow one key pattern we see in the book of Acts: fellowship, prayer, worship, and teaching.

In Acts, believers met from house to house, strengthening one another, aligning their homes with heaven, and creating pockets of revival that eventually shook entire cities. Then coming all together publicly to worship and hear God's Word. The same spiritual pattern still works today. When homes gather in unity, purity, and devotion, God responds. Heaven draws near. And this Avra Valley region that Marana is in can be transformed.

This week, I encourage you to daily declare blessings, breakthroughs, and spiritual freedom over your home, family, and even your neighborhood. Speak these things in the name of Jesus and watch God transform your surroundings.

The Devil's Strategies Against Your Morning Prayer

This week's word comes from Rev. Josh Herring's message "The Devil's Strategies Against Your Morning Prayer", shared by Bro. David Ross. Please listen - it's transformational. It's already changed my prayer life and will help us win our community to Christ. You can watch it here:  Josh Herring - WAR FOR YOUR MORNINGS.

Rev. Herring outlines four deadly tactics the enemy uses to sabotage our morning prayer time:

Distractions - late-night scrolling, anything that steals tomorrow's focus.
Exhaustion - pushing prayer when we're drained (Luke 18:1).
Aggravation - going to bed angry (Ephesians 4:26-27).
Division - resentment toward spiritual leaders.

Scripture's early risers who walked in victory because they met God at dawn:

Abraham rose early to pray (Gen. 19).
Moses faced Pharaoh at sunrise (Ex. 8).
Jesus slipped away before daylight to pray (Mark 1:35).
Paul sought the Lord at dawn for strength (Acts 20).

In stark contrast, Samson's late sleeping left him vulnerable (Judges 16). The pattern is clear: structure and early rising are non-negotiable for leadership and breakthrough.

Here's the promise: morning prayer shifts us from reactive to proactive spiritual warfare. Like Moses, when we rise early to stand before the "Pharaohs" in our lives, we move from delegated authority to earned dominion - conquering enemies, seeing family members healed, addictions broken, and souls saved. Dominion isn't given; it's fought for on our knees before the sun comes up.

This week's challenge:

   1. Rise 15-30 min earlier.
   2. Guard your bedtime.
   3. Meet Jesus in the morning.

Together, let's rise early, pray boldly, and see our community won to the Lord. I can't wait to hear your testimonies.

"Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where He prayed." - Mark 1:35

Glad to be in God's House

Psalm 3:8 (KJV)
" I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the Lord."

There was a time in America when nearly everyone had a church background. Sundays were sacred, families dressed up, gathered together, and made their way to the house of God. The church wasn't just a building; it was the heartbeat of the community. It was where people prayed together, found hope, and drew strength for the week ahead.

Somewhere along the way, the pace of life changed. The world became busier, priorities shifted, and many drifted from what once grounded them. But David's words still echo through the ages: "I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the Lord."

I can't help but think about what God is doing right here in Marana, how every time we gather, whether it's for prayer, our Connect Groups, our services, there's a tangible manifestation of God's presence. You can feel peace settle in, and direction begin to come.

David understood something that our generation desperately needs to rediscover, that direction and peace are found in the house of the Lord. When we step into His presence, confusion gives way to clarity, worry is replaced with worship, and weariness turns into strength.

As it says in Psalm 73:16–17 (KJV):
"When I thought to know this, it was too painful for me; Until I went into the sanctuary of God; then understood I their end."

David (or Asaph, the psalmist) found clarity and understanding in the sanctuary, direction came when he entered God's presence.

There's a unique joy that comes from gathering with God's people, not out of duty, but out of delight. Every service, every prayer meeting, and every time we open the Word together is an opportunity to be refreshed, refocused, and reminded that God is still moving among His people. As we continue to draw near to Him, it's clear, God is reaching our town and the surrounding areas. His Spirit is stirring hearts, restoring lives, and reminding us that He's not finished with Marana or the communities around us.

In a world filled with distractions and uncertainty, God's house remains a place of refuge, a steady anchor where our hearts are realigned to His purpose.

So the next time someone says, "Let's go to church," let joy rise in your heart like David's. Let's be glad to gather again, glad to worship, glad to hear His Word, and glad to be where direction, peace, and the presence of God are found.

My prayer today is that we never lose that gladness, that joy and hunger to be in the house of the Lord. May His house always be our refuge, where we find direction, peace, and renewed strength in Him. And may His presence continue to dwell right here among us in Marana.

I Must Remember

Psalm 3:8 (KJV)
"Salvation belongeth unto the LORD: thy blessing is upon thy people. Selah."

This psalm is believed to have been written by David during one of the darkest times of his life, when he fled from the rebellion of his own son, Absalom.

At the start of this psalm, David begins with a cry of deep distress:

Psalm 3:1 (ESV)
"O LORD, how many are my foes! Many are rising against me."

Here, David pours out his heart: "Lord, it feels like everyone is against me. Even my own family has turned on me and is trying to take the kingdom away." He tells God exactly how he feels and what others are saying about him, "Lord, they're saying You won't help me."

Many of us have been in that same place, feeling surrounded, misunderstood, and even questioning if God still cares. "Lord, what did I do to deserve this? Why does it feel like You've forgotten me?"

But David doesn't stay there and that's the key. He doesn't dwell on the negative or camp out in despair. After expressing his pain, something shifts in his spirit:

Psalm 3:3-4 (ESV)
"But you, O LORD, are a shield about me, my glory, and the lifter of my head. I cried aloud to the LORD, and he answered me from his holy hill. Selah."

What a change of heart! David turns his eyes from the problem to the Protector. He remembers that God is his shield, his defender, and the lifter of his head. The same God who helped him defeat the lion, the bear, and Goliath is still with him now. David begins to draw strength from his memories of God's past faithfulness.

Sometimes we need to do the same, pause and remind ourselves, "God, You've done it before, and I know You'll do it again."

Three times in this psalm, David uses the word Selah (verses 2, 4, and 8). While its meaning isn't completely certain, most believe it's a musical pause, a moment to stop and reflect. And that makes sense. David would have paused to think deeply about what he had just declared.

When you pause to think about what's going wrong, don't stay there too long. Like David, shift your focus quickly to who God is. Move from "There's a lot against me" to "But God, You are my shield and my strength."

As David closes this psalm, he reminds himself, and us, of one powerful truth:

Psalm 3:8 (KJV)
"Salvation belongeth unto the LORD: thy blessing is upon thy people. Selah."

No matter what David was facing ,he knew this: God has the final say. If salvation comes, it will come from the Lord. Not from his army, not from his wisdom, but from God alone.

I don't know what you might be facing today, but I do know this, salvation still belongs to the Lord. Whatever the situation, turn your heart toward Him. Maybe, like David, you feel surrounded or even betrayed by those close to you. But take a Selah moment. pause, reflect, and remember:

Salvation comes from the Lord, and His blessing is upon His people.

Take a moment today to lift your head and rest in that truth. Let's have a Selah moment and think about the salvation of our God!
